Wednesday’s biggest gaining & declining stocks

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) � Shares of the following companies were among those making notable moves in Wednesday�s U.S. stock market:

Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. AMLN � jumped 54% to $23.77 a share after Bloomberg reported the diabetes drug maker had spurned a $3.5 billion unsolicited offer from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. BMY �

Shares of Annie�s Inc. BNNY �rallied 89% to $35.83 as the food maker made its public debut on the New York Stock Exchange.

Frontline Ltd.�s FRO � shares jumped 8% after Dahlman Rose & Co. said the oil industry�s asset prices could rise as much as 20% within a year. Shares of other tanker operators also gained, with Overseas Shipholding Group Inc. OSG � up 7.4% and Teekay Tankers Ltd. TNK � rising 14%.

Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc.�s HII � shares climbed 6.8% after the aircraft builder reported fourth-quarter profit that beat expectations.

Pentair Inc.�s PNR � shares rose 15% after Tyco International Ltd. TYC � said it would spin off and merge its flow-control business with Pentair. Shares of Tyco gained 4.3%.

Robbins & Myers Inc.�s RBN �shares gained 11% after the supplier of oil-and-gas drilling equipment late Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings that beat estimates.

Sealy Corp.�s ZZ shares climbed 6.4% after the mattress manufacturer late Tuesday reported a surprise first-quarter profit.

Vocera Communications Inc.�s VCRA � shares rallied 31% to $21.03 on the first day of trading for the provider of communications equipment for health-care facilities.

Zoltek Cos.�s ZOLT � shares gained 9.9% after Needham & Co. upgraded the maker of carbon fibers for windmill blades to hold from underperform.

Decliners

Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc.�s ARNA � shares fell 10% after Piper Jaffray Cos. downgraded the biotechnology company to neutral from overweight.

Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc.�s JOSB � shares lost 8.6% after the male-apparel maker reported fourth-quarter sales beneath Wall Street�s expectations.

Peabody Energy Corp.�s BTU � shares declined 3.4% a day after the government said it was proposing stricter emission regulations for coal-fired power plants. Shares of other coal companies also fell. Arch Coal Inc. ACI � was off 4.1%, Alpha Natural Resources Inc. ANR � shed 4.2%, James River Coal Co. JRCC � retreated 4% and Consol Energy Inc. CNX � dropped 1.9%.

Synnex Corp.�s SNX � shares slid 12.5% a day after the provider of back-office services projected second-quarter results below Wall Street�s expectations.
