Ron Paul Refuses Secret Service "Welfare"


Ron Paul appeared on Jay Leno last night and, as usual, an interesting conversation ensued...

When Leno asked Dr. Paul what his Secret Service codename would be if he had agents protecting him around the clock, Ron Paul said “bulldog”.

“I'll go after the Fed and all that big spending,” a smiling Paul explained, doing his best to look tough by waving a clenched fist.

The crowd got a good laugh just before Paul went on to explain why he recently rejected Secret Service protection. And it had nothing to do with his safety or waning popularity...

"I’m an ordinary citizen and I would think I should pay for my own protection," Paul quipped.

Essentially, Paul addressed the fact that any type of Secret Service protection is a form of welfare, and he is opposed to forcing taxpayers take care of him.

Currently, he estimates that Secret Service costs about $50,000 in a day!
