Canaccord Genuity’s semiconductor analyst Bobby Burleson this morning writes that his “checks” of the PC supply chain show “continued health,” with makers of motherboards and notebooks “likely to deliver upside to normal Q1 seasonality.”
Hard-disk drive supply has been improving and demand appears to be holding up, writes Burleson.
Notebook shipments, previously expected to be down 10% to 15%, appear now to be trending for a decline of just 10%, he observes. Desktop motherboard shipments appear as if they’ll rise 5% from last quarter, which is “a little better than expected even though Intel postponed launch of Ivy Bridge.”
Burleson’s top picks to ride that recovery are Analog Devices (ADI), Fairchild Semiconductor (FCS), Integrated Device Technology (IDTI), Marvell Technology Group (MRVL) because of the recovery in hard drives, and Broadcom (BRCM) for its “Apple exposure.”
