YHOO: Microsoft Not Interested, Says AllThingsD

AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher this afternoon pooh-pooh’s the Reuters’s report from this afternoon asserting that Microsoft (MSFT) is mulling a bid for Yahoo! (YHOO).

It all smells a bit of the banker hype machine, she writes.

“According to my sources, throughout this entire process Microsoft execs have taken pains to make it clear that they are not going to be among the bidders in any significant manner.” Microsoft may make a “token” investment at some point, if another party brings together financing, Swisher writes.

Yahoo! shares closed up $1.46, or 10%, at $15.92, but were down about 3% in late trading. Microsoft shares closed up $57 cents, or 2%, at $25.91.
