Soon, on-the-go workers won't have to stop at the nearest coffee shop or bookstore to connect to the Internet and sift through email. Cars will have all the connectivity we need.
Audi and Deutsche Telekom's (NASDAQOTH: DTEGY ) T-Mobile unit have teamed up to create a $15-a-month connected car service. Switching it on fills new Audi cars with Wi-Fi signals and connects drivers to weather, news, and popular Google services, including Google Earth, Google Voice, and Local Search for finding the best rest stops. The deal fulfills a promise made by several car makers, including Audi, at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Ford, meanwhile, continues to deliver in-car connectivity through smartphones using the SYNC system developed in concert with Microsoft. More than 5 million vehicles are SYNC-ready as of this writing.
Expect plenty more as enterprising automakers turn to connectivity and voice-activated services to differentiate models coming off the line, says Tim Beyers of Motley Fool Rule Breakers and Motley Fool Supernova in the following video.
